Mānmeyodayaḥ (Volume-1) মানমেয়োদয়: (২য় খন্ড)

This book written by Dīnanāth Tripathi is a detail exposition of Mīmāṃsā text Mānameodaya, originally authored by Nārāyaṇa Bhaṭṭa. This book is divided into two sections, viz. Pramāṇa and Prameya. After proposing the definition of pramāṇa, the author presents a detailed analysis of all the six pramāṇas accepted by the Bhaṭṭa school of Mīmāṃsā philosophy. During this discourse, the views of Nyāya, Vaiśeṣika, Vedānta, Buddhism and Prābhākara have been refuted. In the Prameya section, there is a discussion on the five prameyas accepted in the Bhaṭṭa school, viz. dravya, jāti, guṇa, kriya and abhāva.

Philosophy, Logic and Language

This book by Kalidas Bhattacharyya  is a collection of essays on different topics. However, the first seven essays and the eleventh one do have a thematic unity. They are in one way or another linked to the questions regarding the nature and method of philosophy – a theme that we find often in the writings of Kalidas Bhattacharyya. Essays 1 to 5 and essay 6 are directly concerned with the role of language and logic in philosophical reflections. He touches upon Logical Positivism and Analytical Philosophy in this regard. The other key issue that Bhattacharyya considers here is the nature of Self. In particular, Bhattacharyya has been keen on exploring the nature of the self we refer to by the pronoun “I” and its relation to the other selves. The concept of God  also finds its place in two of his essays here. Bhattacharyya also discusses the problem of freedom in almost all the essays, in particular the ones on self. One interesting yet rather divergent topic that is discussed by Bhattacharyya is the idea of the Given and its Appearance. Two essays are on specific philosophers – one on Rabindranath Tagore and another on Basanta Kumar Mallik. The Essays are:

Radhakrishnan (Centenary Volume)

Radhakrishnan: Centenary Volume is edited by G. Parthasarathi and D.P.Chattopadhyaya. This book was published as part of a programme undertaken by the Government of India to pay respect to Radhakrishnan on his birth centenary. The book is divided into two parts: 1. The Philosopher and Religion and Spirit and 2. The Universalist and the World Statesman. The first part contains essays on Radhakrishnan’s understanding of Vedānta, Buddhism and religion in general. In the second part, all the essays deal with the role of Radhakrishnan as a statesman.

The Vidhi Viveka (Volume-1) বিধিবিবেক (১ম ভাগ)

Since Mīmāṃsā philosophy is known as the study of Vedic sentences, and since knowledge of vidhi sentences are required to perform the Vedic rituals resulting in the production of dharma, analysis and classification of vidhi sentence forms an important part of Mīmāṃsā philosophy. The present book, authored by Srimohan Bhattacharya, offers an explanation of the views of Maṇḍan Miśra as one finds in  his Vidhi-Viveka with regard to the nature and varieties of vidhi sentence. The author also alludes to the Nyāya-Kanikā commentary written by Vācaspati Miśra on Vidhi-Viveka. In the course of the discussion, the author presents Maṇḍana Miśra’s refutation of the doctrine of momentariness and his rejection of the idea of omniscience targeting Buddhism, Yoga and Nyāya.

Vaibhāṣika Darśaṇ বৈভাষিক দর্শন

The present book contains a detailed presentation of the main philosophical ideas of Vaibhaṣika school of Buddhism. The book is in two volumes. The first volume has the following chapters: 1. Introducing Sarvāstivāda, 2. Determining the asamskṛta qualities, 3, Rupaskandha, 4. Determining momentariness, 5. Hetuphalābhāva, 6. Citta cittasāmānya, 7. Pratītyasamutpada, 8. Refutation of God, 9. Avayavaikhnaḍana and 10. Anasrava samskṛta dharma. The second volume contains the following chapters: 1. Pramāṇa, 2. Pratyakṣa and 3, Anumāna.
